SINGAPORE: The record number of 77 dengue cases in Bukit Batok has not gone down, and grassroots leaders in the area are adopting a different approach to promote the anti-dengue message.
Through dialect, humour and songs, "getai", which means "song stage" performances, will be used to bring out the anti-dengue message in Hong Koh North. Over 1,000 residents are expected to catch these "getai" performances.
According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), there are still 77 cases recorded in Bukit Batok Streets 31, 32 and 34 as of Thursday, higher than the record 74 cases at Yishun Street 72 during the dengue epidemic two years ago. More NEA and town council officers will be hitting the ground to get rid of mosquito breeding grounds, and 50 of them have already been deployed to check on homes and public areas. Three more workers have also been provided by the contractor to clean public areas, while pest control technicians are inspecting the area every day, instead of once a week.
